If you looked up the word ‘subtext’ in the dictionary, this is what you should see. At least, in a perfect world you should.

sub-text (subtekst’) n. 1. The implicit meaning or theme of a literary text. 2. The underlying personality of a dramatic character as implied or indicated by an actor in performance. 3. An unfortunately dying artform. <br/> eg. See HBO’s The Wire (Episode 4, Season 1)
