steadfast kids

A quick thought on why Main Characters in most children’s stories do not change.
On the way in today I was thinking about why most popular kid’s stories have Steadfast Main Characters. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (the original movie), Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, The Little Mermaid - they all have Main Characters who manage to change the minds of their Impact Characters (usually a parent - more often than not, a father (or father figure!)). To a certain extent, even the classic, The Little Engine That Could has a steadfast main character in it.
Is it that when you’re a child you need to know that you have some strength, some kind of power to change the world around you?
