The Assassination of Jesse James by the Impact Character Robert Ford

August 27, 2007

The Assassination of Jesse James PosterConstant readers of this site will know why I got such a kick out of this latest trailer. Besides the fact that I’m a sucker for any Western (my love for Deadwood and Unforgiven knows no bounds), this film actually looks like it could be pretty decent. For those just happening by, pay special close attention to the back and forth between Jesse (Brad Pitt) and Ford (Casey Affleck).

Well there’s an Impact Character/Main Character “You and I are alike” moment if I’ve ever seen one before! Casey Affleck’s creepy delivery just makes it that much more interesting.

Because it’s Brad Pitt and because they make a big deal about how his children didn’t really know him, I’m inclined to believe that Jesse James would be the Main Character. While there are some personal moments with Robert Ford, I get the impression that we’re looking more at him then from within him.

Either rate, here’s hoping that this film (along with 3:10 to Yuma) makes this a great Fall season for Western lovers.
