International Wall-E Trailer Does It Right

International Wall-E Trailer Does It Right

Finally. A decent trailer for Pixar’s 2008 Summer release Wall-E.

Or Watch the International Trailer for Wall-E here.

Almost a year ago, I wrote an article about the potential storyline for Pixar’s Wall-E. Now it seems that most of what I predicted, or hoped for, was true.

This trailer clearly sets up WALL-E’s personal problem as the last robot on Earth (Main Character Throughline), EVE - a brand new robot who comes along to shake up his way of seeing things (Impact Character Throughline), and a relationship that grows between them (Relationship Throughline). All this against the backdrop of an Earth submerged in human leftovers (Overall Story Throughline).

What is most interesting is how much more compelling this trailer is than previous ones. Compare:

Boring.

Most of the trailers up until now have basically been that: one long introduction to the Main Character Throughline, with a hint or two at the Overall Story Throughline.

Because of that, I haven’t really been looking forward to the film at all. That trailer during the Super Bowl was horrendous. A robot playing with a vacuum cleaner? That’s what I have to look forward to this summer? Really?

Oh, I was pretty sure that the end product would be great (Finding Nemo is one of my favorite films of all time after), but I wasn’t eagerly anticipating it.

Now I can’t wait.

UPDATE: Unfortunately Pixar had the original international trailer removed from YouTube for whatever reason. I went ahead and found another copy of it for you to see. The unfortunate result of this is that you can’t read the comments for the video anymore. Why would that be important? Because there was a marked difference between the reactions of that international trailer and the trailers and teasers that came before it. Previously the comments ranged from “What?” to “Lame” to “What is this about?” Under that new international trailer the comments were unanimous in their praise “Awesome!” “Can’t Wait!!” “This looks amazing!”

I’d of course add myself to that list.
